The EML4-ALK FISH probe set is designed to detect rearrangements between the human EML4 and ALK genes, both located on the short arm of chromosome 2 (2p21 and 2p23, respectively). The kit contains two differentially labeled Locus Specific Probes (LSP), one covering some promoter-enhancer region and the 5’ (start) portion of the EML4 gene, the other covering the 3’ (end) part of the ALK gene encoding the cytoplasmic portion and kinase domain of ALK. The probe set is constructed to recognize translocations involving ALK and EML4 such as the EML4-ALK fusions found in a subset of NSCLC cases. In addition to revealing breaks leading to inversion and translocation, the probe set can also be used to identify deletions or amplifications.
